Just in time for World Gin Day, Alison and Andrew have made a video introducing the history and development of gin. We start with gin’s origins as a medicine and follow through to it’s ancestor drink, Jenever, from the ‘Low Countries’. We explore the gin craze and the Old Tom style of gin, before coming up to date with some of the gins we serve at The Hop Inn.

We have 50 different gins on our list and we would delighted to chat to you about some of the special and delicious choices we have:

Gins made in London:

Our nearest gin distillery in Bow Wharf; The East London Liquor Company

One of our favourite gins; Sacred made by Ian and Hillary Hart in Highgate

The original London small craft brewery; Sipsmith. We love their VJOP, (Very Junipery Over Proof), Lemon Drizzle and Orange Cacao variations

Fifth-generation family owned distillery in Balham, Haymans. We love ther London Dry and particularly their fantastic Old Tom. We also have their sweet and delicious gin liqueur.

A London classic for a great G&T, Beefeater from Kennington

A selection of gins from the City Of London Distillery, COLD, based just off Ludgate Circus, in the heart of the square mile

For more information about gin and an overview of some great gin varieties, we love Dave Broom’s book, Gin The Manual
